Are Veneers Right for You?

As an adult, having teeth that are chipped, worn, discolored, or slightly misaligned can all make your smile less than ideal and leave you feeling unenthused or even insecure about your smile. Your concerns may not be significant enough to endure traditional orthodontic treatment with braces or aligners, but you still want a little help where your smile aesthetics are concerned. This is exactly what makes porcelain veneers an excellent solution!

Porcelain veneers from our expert dentists, Dr. Todd Gruen and Dr. John Whittmore at Germantown Dental Group, offer many benefits for patients who want to fix imperfections in their front teeth. They can be used to fix one tooth or several teeth. We can even place veneers on all of the front teeth for a complete smile makeover! Wondering if veneers are right for you? Keep reading to see if this might be your smile solution, and discover how to get started on your new smile today!

What are Veneers?

A dental veneer is a thin shell of porcelain that is bonded to the front of a tooth to change its appearance. Some patients utilize veneers to close spaces or gaps in their teeth, while some patients are correcting one tooth that is not quite aligned, like instant orthodontic treatment. Veneers are even used to create a more glamorous smile that is whiter and shinier than the patient’s original teeth. The glassy composition of porcelain resists staining and reflects light in a similar way to tooth enamel, so they look natural- even if they are an improvement. The porcelain is commonly color matched to surrounding teeth so that they blend in. In fact, it is often difficult to tell the difference between a tooth with a porcelain veneer and one without.

Types of Veneers

At one time, your veneer options were limited but like with braces options, aesthetic and cosmetic treatment options are on the rise. In addition to traditional procelain veneers that require the existing tooth to be modified to accept the porcelain onlay, we also offer DURAthin prepless veneers. This modern option is so thin that it can be adhered directly to the front of the teeth without the need for removing any enamel from the underlying tooth. This means that for some patients, we can design the smile they have always wanted without affecting the natural tooth structure. An intact smile underneath means you could remove your veneers if wanted, and not have to worry about more work to cover the changes.

How long do Veneers last?

Although veneers cannot develop decay, it’s important to maintain them so that the underlying tooth stays healthy. Regular maintenance will keep your veneers looking brighter, and staying stronger, for much longer. With regular dental visits and proper oral hygiene care, you can expect your veneers to last 10 years or more.

Can I afford Veneers?

Traditional and prepless porcelain dental veneers are some of the most popular and effective ways to enhance the beauty of your smile. It’s not uncommon, however, for patients considering veneers to be sensitive to the cost of the treatment. Since every person’s needs and goals are unique, the final figure for your dental veneers will vary depending on the techniques used and the number of veneers placed. At Germantown Dental Group, we are dedicated to providing you with the best possible care– and at the best possible price available. Furthermore, we offer a range of payment and financing options that are designed to help bring this procedure into your budget.

Whether you choose prepless veneers or traditional, one tooth or all of them, your procedure will be tailored to your individual needs. During your initial consultation, we will discuss your concerns, develop a customized treatment plan, and explain the fees involved. We will also go into more detail about our financing options, which offer excellent rates and terms following a simple and quick approval process.

Are dental veneers right for me?

The primary criteria for candidacy for dental veneers are that your teeth are fully developed and free of active decay to gum disease. If any infection is present, that area will need to be treated prior to initiating any type of smile makeover.

Veneers are ideal for our Germantown Dental Group patients who want to enhance the appearance of their healthy smile. If you have teeth with small gaps between them, mild to moderate crowding, uneven edges, or misshaped enamel, veneers could be the best and fast solution to get the smile you’ve always dreamed of!

Cosmetic veneers can give you the fastest smile makeover results without invasive work. Our patients invest in veneers for a number of different reasons. It may be that they’re self-conscious or embarrassed about the way their smile is shaped, and they want to have the confidence of having a straight smile. Or they could have surface irregularities that cannot be corrected with other interceptive options.

While veneers serve as a great alternative to braces, teeth whitening treatments, and crowns– they are not for everyone. Patients with severely decayed teeth or large fillings won’t qualify for veneers, with some patients finding they feel more sensitivity because traditional veneers require removing a layer of their protective enamel. If you are prone to grinding your teeth, you will be at risk of cracking or chipping your veneer shell covers.
